Laundry Problems: How to Remove Chocolate Stains from Bed Sheets

We all love chocolates. In fact, it is one of our all-time favorite foods. However, chocolate can also be annoying especially when it gets to our bed sheets. And let's admit! Removing chocolate stains is one of the most hassle things to do when it comes to doing our laundry. Who would have fun removing such especially when the stain is stubborn? And how much more when you kids who just love to eat chocolates? Whether you like it or not, having such stains are unavoidable.

Removing chocolate stains is one of the dilemmas most homeowners or parents faced. Of course, they don't want to have a dirty bed sheet at home. Generally, removing such stains is not that hard as you think it is for as long as you know what and what not to do. And even if you are living in a condo unit Cebu, there is no reason for you not to have a clean and stain free bed sheet. However, if you are one of those homeowners who are still struggling in removing chocolate stains, then you might want to refer to these tips below.

Remove excess chocolate

One way or another, there will always be a small piece of chocolate that would probably be left on the sheet. And for you to remove such, you better use a butter knife or a spoon and get rid of the excess chocolate from the fabric. But be careful, don't use any sharp objects that could cut or damage the fabric. When removing, make sure that you don't spread the chocolate to the clean parts of the cloth. This will only make the stain even bigger.

Moreover, it will definitely be tricky to remove a chocolate stain when it is already dried and hardened onto the fabric since it can damage the fabric. When this happen, you should not scrape away or do anything but to skip to the next step.

Rinse with cold water

Cold water is a good remedy for stains. Rinse the stained cloth with cold water and allow the stains to travel back through the least amount of fabric. Although it may not remove the chocolate stain completely, but at least with this step, it will help wash away as many stains as possible without setting it permanently.

But you also have to be careful. Never use a hot or warm water to rinse a stained cloth. This will only make the stain stubborn since this will actually set the protein-based part of the stain. However, using of cold water may seem counter-productive since chocolate also has an oil-based stain component which makes it easier to remove the stains.

Rub in some liquid laundry detergent

This is one of the things that can also help the chocolate stain removed. Just gently rub the liquid detergent into the stain and allow the clothing to sit for 5 minutes. Do not rinse immediately. After sitting for 5 minutes, you can now soak the cloth in cold water for 15 more minutes. And every 3-5 minutes, rub the stained area by a hand wash. Repeat these steps until the stains can be removed. Rinse stained area completely. Take note, if you don't have a liquid detergent, you can substitute it with liquid dish soap.

Try a stain remover

If you think that the chocolate stain is really stubborn. Then you can try a stain remover or any bleach available. Treat both sides of the stained cloth so that the stain remover would penetrate fully on the stain itself. And when the stain is completely removed from the fabric, wash the sheets normally in the washing machine or through hand wash. With this, you can now dry the sheets properly.
